About Hy-tech Mushroom
Hy-Tech Mushroom Compost, Inc. has been owned by the Needham
family since 1987. They are third generation farmers, but also
lifetime innovators. They have been awarded on several occasions for
their innovations in farming, soil conservation, and odor reduction
with the process of composting.
In 2006, Donald “Buster” Needham was one of seven farmers
distinguished with the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Master Farmer title. The
award is given to farmers who are dedicated to leadership and
service in the agricultural community.
Donald Y. Needham currently is one of eight board members for the
American Mushroom Institute. He helps represent mushroom growers
from all over the United States. The purpose of AMI is to help
develop the methods for growing and marketing mushrooms to make
farming more economic. Their constant dedication to research
benefits communities all over North America and even the world.
We offer tours for groups who are interested in discovering the art
of composting and mushroom growing.
